The Waiting Game

It seems like we’re always waiting for something. Waiting for the next stage or next event. As a kid, all we want is to be bigger and grownup already. Then we move onto waiting to drive, waiting to graduate, and waiting for your career to start (including waiting for each raise or promotion). For many girls, there is also waiting to fall in love, waiting to get engaged, waiting to get married, waiting to have a family and a house. All this waiting throughout our lives and yet we can’t seem to do it well - at least I can’t! “I can’t wait to...” seems to be a frequently used sentence in my personal vocabulary.
However, I’m starting to feel like it is not such a great pattern to fall into. And after watching some close friends share similar “I can’t wait” feelings, I’ve decided to take a step back and ask “why can’t you wait?” Not that it’s a bad thing to express your excitement for the next stage or event in life, but why can’t we be happy in the in-between parts? Why can’t we sit and recognize all the good things we have going for us where we are at now?
I’ve decided to start practicing being happy for what is happening now and not just what is coming in the future. I’ve decided to work on cherishing all the little moments in-between the big ones, especially because those are the moments that make the big ones happen and make them so exciting.
Now this is not going to be an easy change for me. I am a major worrier and think about the future ALL the time. BUT I am going to practice doing this! I’m going to work hard at being intentional with my time and my thoughts. I am going to work hard to cherish all the moments. Join me!
XOXO
